Air Force unable to create comeback in Thursday loss
10/19/2023 10:48:00 PM | Women's Soccer
The Bulldogs put the Falcons at a disadvantage right out of the chute, scoring twice in the match's first six minutes. Fresno State eventually carried a 4-0 lead into halftime following goals in the 13th and 36th minutes.
Air Force did appear to have a semblance of life, as Samantha Sharp fired home her first-career collegiate score in the 54th minute. Following a frenetic bounce in the box, Sharp collected the ball to net her first Air Force score.
Just three minutes later, Mia Otero added on to her team lead, notching her fifth score of the season. Similarly to Sharp, Otero took advantage of some chaos in the box before tucking away the goal.
After trimming the scoreboard to a two-goal deficit, Air Force was only able to add one more shot on goal the remainder of the second half.
Chase Borntreger led the Falcons with five total shoit attempts, while Grace Sublette, Jordi Ives, Raine Komata and Mia Otero each had two shots.
The loss moves Air Force into 10th in the Mountain West standings with two games remaining.
Next, the Falcons travel to San Jose State to take on the Spartans on Sunday, October 22. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 pm MT.
