Air Force (15-9 overall, 1-0 WCC) defeated Fresno Pacific 20-11 in the opening round of action Friday at the Julian Fraser Memorial Tournament, played at the Sullivan Aquatic Center on the campus of Santa Clara University in Santa Clara, Calif.
A big second quarter helped burst the game open of the Falcons, who have now won eight of its last nine games. After playing to a 3-3 draw in the first quarter, Air Force erupted for seven goals, while holding the Sunbirds to just one, taking a commanding 10-4 halftime lead. The Falcons then scored eight goals in the third period to go up by nine at 18-9. Two more goals were tacked on in the fourth.
Freshman Tom Leggett led the Falcons with seven goals, which tied a career-high. Freshman Jack Richards notched a hat trick with four total points. Senior Ian Christie had three assists and a goal for four points. Junior Jacob Yi scored two goals and two assists for four points.
Sophomore Luca Smith had five saves in goal for the win.
Air Force returns to action at the Julian Fraser Memorial Tournament tomorrow, facing #19 Brown back in Santa Clara at noon PT.
