COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Five standout runners from the Air Force cross country history books have been named to the Mountain West 25th Season Cross Country Team, the conference office announced today (Oct. 26), on the eve of the 2023 championship meet.
As the Mountain West celebrates its 25th season in 2023-24, the conference will recognize a 25th Season Team for each sport during its championship event. The 25 men and 25 women were determined by the MW 25th Season Committee, which is comprised of members from the league's 11 full-time institutions.
The Falcons' list of honorees includes the program's three Mountain West Cross Country champions – Isaiah Bragg (Class of 2014), Mahala Norris (Class of 2021) and senior Sean Maison. Bragg became the program's first-ever MW cross country champion following a four-second victory over the field in 2013, while Norris became Air Force's first female conference champion at the Division I level during a record-setting 2020 season that included a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Cross Country Championships. Maison claimed the conference title last fall after clocking the fifth-fastest 8K in championship-meet history – a finish that led Air Force to a 1-2-3 sweep and the team title with a MW record-low 20-point score.
Sam Gilman and Ryan Johnson, both 2023 Academy graduates and members of three-straight conference championship teams, were also named to the Mountain West 25th Season Cross Country Team. A 2021 All-American, Gilman was a two-time MW runner-up and the only three-time first-team all-conference selection in program history, while Johnson, a 2022 All-American and the 2019 MW Freshman of the Year, used the eighth-fastest 8K in championship-meet history to finish second during last year's sweep for his third all-MW accolade.
The 2023 Mountain West Cross Country Championships will take place on Friday, Oct. 27, at Eagle Island State Park in Eagle, Idaho. The meet will be broadcast live on the Mountain West Network and MW app.
