Falcons Stay in Colorado Springs for UCCS Open
10/4/2023 5:41:00 PM | Cross Country
After a weekend off from competition, the Air Force cross country team returns to action this Friday (Oct. 6), when some of the younger members of the squad return to Monument Valley Park in Colorado Springs for the annual UCCS Cross Country Open.
MEET INFORMATION
The UCCS Cross Country Open will take place at Monument Valley Park in Colorado Springs on Friday, Oct. 6. The men's 8K will kick off the day at 9:00 a.m. (MT), while the women's 6K race will follow 45 minutes later. The men have 11 runners entered in the non-scoring meet, while the women are scheduled to send nine athletes to MVP. The course begins in the northern section of Monument Valley Park, near Culebra Street, and will feature 2000-meter loops with grass, crushed gravel and packed dirt.
THIS LOOKS FAMILIAR
In addition to Monument Valley Park serving as the Falcons' weekly training course, Air Force raced through part of the park during the season-opening AFXC Classic in early September.
FALCONS HOLD STEADY IN NATIONAL RANKINGS
The Falcons remained at No. 8 in the Oct 3 edition of the USTFCCCA National Coaches' Poll, marking the 10th time in program history that the men have earned a top-10 placement in the national standings – and the 51st-straight poll that have seen the men mentioned in the national conversation (either ranked or receiving votes) – a program-best streak that dates back to the opening poll of the 2017 season.
FAR, FAR ABOVE…
The Air Force men and women easily defeated their service academy counterparts from Navy in the team standings at the Virginia Invitational on Sept. 23. The men (sixth, 189 points) finished nearly 300 points better than the Midshipmen (19th, 468 points), while the women (17th, 446 points) bettered Navy (20th, 548 points) by almost 100 points in the first race between the two programs in more than a decade.
THE NEXT COURSE
Air Force returns to action next Friday (Oct. 13), when it travels to Wisconsin for the prestigious Nuttycombe Invitational.
