10/6/2023 5:33:00 PM | Cross Country
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Highlighted by a sweep of the top-three finishes in the men's 8K, several younger members of the Air Force cross country team wrapped up action at the UCCS Cross Country Open this morning (Oct. 6) in Colorado Springs. In all, the Falcons accounted for five top-10 finishes in the two non-scoring races around Monument Valley Park.
Sophomore Will Allen won the 111-runner 8K in a time of 25:03.4, becoming the first Falcon to take first in UCCS's mid-season race since the team began racing there in 2019. Allen, who edged classmate Jayden Nats for the win by just 0.5 seconds, paced a trio of second-year Air Force runners to an impressive 1-2-3 finish, as Nats (25:03.9, second) and Brenton Maddox (25:05.0, third) completed the sophomore sweep. The Falcons finished the day with four of the top-seven finishes in the men's race, as freshman Patrick Lawson collected a seventh-place time of 25:27.8 in his first timed 8K around MVP.
Air Force claimed three additional finishers in the top-30 of the men's race, including a top-25 placement from freshman Dominykas Remeikis (23rd, 25:56.3). Classmate Josh Razo clocked a time of 26:06.5 to finish 28th, while sophomore Ethan Ashley finished less than four seconds back with a 29th-place time of 26:10.0.
On the women's side, sophomore Ricky Fetterolf clocked a time of 18:14.2 to finish 10th in the 71-runner event and lead Air Force on their 6K circuit around MVP. Fetterolf was one of three Falcons to finish in the top-20, as classmate Beatrice Shea and freshman Liliane Aittama finished 13th (18:18.3) and 17th (18:28.1), respectively. Had this been a scoring meet, freshmen Camryn Bodine and Danielle Tilp would've rounded out the top five, finishing 36th (19:29.6) and 39th (19:50.2), respectively, while fellow freshman Sofia Sanchez was just 0.3-seconds back with a finish of 19:50.5 (40th).
The Falcons return to competition next Friday (Oct. 13), when they race against some of the nation's elite at the famed Wisconsin Nuttycombe Invitational in Madison.
