
Air Force finished second in smallbore in West Virginia

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – The Air Force rifle team sits in second place on the opening day of the West Virginia Fall Classic, Saturday, Nov. 11, in Morgantown, W.V. The four teams, all ranked in the top 11 in the nation, shot smallbore on the first day and will shoot air rifle on Sunday, Nov. 12.
In the smallbore competition, the fifth-ranked Falcons shot a 2336. West Virginia, ranked No. 1 in the nation, shot a 2363, followed by fourth-ranked Nebraska (2334) and 11th-ranked Murray State (2321).
Junior Lauren Hurley was the top Falcon, shooting a 586 and qualifying for the finals. Hurley entered the smallbore finals in eighth place and finished sixth, behind five WVU shooters.
Peninah D'Souza shot a 585, followed by Scott Rockett (584), Morgan Kreb and Victoria Leppert (581), Dante Aletto (579) and freshman Elijah Butler (568).
