
Air Force hosts Alaska in dual meet

This Week: Air Force (6-3) will host a dual meet against the Alaska Nanooks, Wednesday, Dec. 6, at 2:30 pm MT at the Cadet Rifle Range. Live scoring on both days will be available at MegaLink.
About the Nanooks: Alaska won the NCAA Rifle Championship last season, the team's 11th national title and first since 2008. Alaska's 4745 aggregate score on Nov. 19 is the fifth-best in the nation this season. Alaska's 2356 on Nov. 19 in air rifle ties as the best score in the nation. Alaska's aggregate average of 4724.20 is third best.
The Falcons in the Rankings: Air Force's aggregate team average of 4716.334 is sixth in the nation. Lauren Hurley's aggregate score of 1188 on Oct. 7 is tied as the 14th best in the nation. Hurley's aggregate average of 1181.50 is the 11th best in the nation. Hurley and Peninah D'Souza have each shot a 598 in air rifle, tying as the 13th-best mark in the nation this season. Hurley's air rifle average of 595.5 is the 13th best this season.
Last Time Out: Air Force placed second at the West Virginia Fall Classic, Nov. 11-12, in Morgantown, W.V. Top-ranked West Virginia won the quad meet with a team score of 4741. Air Force was second at 4709, followed by fourth-ranked Nebraska (4700) and 11th-ranked Murray State (4692). Junior Lauren Hurley placed fifth in aggregate with an 1181. Hurley, who qualified for the finals in smallbore on Saturday, also qualified for the finals in air rifle on day two with a fifth-place finish (595). In the finals, Hurley moved up to third place behind two WVU shooters. Peninah D'Souza shot an 1179 in air rifle, followed by Scott Rockett and Morgan Kreb (592), Victoria Leppert and Dante Aletto (586) and Elijah Butler (571).
On the Horizon: Air Force will have several individuals competing in the Winter Air Gun competition at the Olympic Training Center, Dec. 8-13, in Colorado Springs. The next team competition is Jan. 14 against TCU and Ohio State in Fort Worth, Texas.
