
Air Force to compete for President’s Trophy

This Week: The seventh-ranked Air Force rifle team will battle Army and Navy for the President's Trophy, Saturday, Nov. 4, in West Point, N.Y. The Falcons will then face Army in a dual meet on Sunday, Nov. 5, in West Point. Both matches are scheduled to start at 8 am ET. Live scoring on both days will be available at MegaLink.
About the President's Trophy: Air Force has won 10 titles, including the last nine. Army has won the title eight times, while Navy has seven titles. The first President's Trophy match was contested in 1998 against Air Force, Army, Navy, Coast Guard and U.S. Merchant Marine. In 1998, Army was the host site for the inaugural event, as Navy won its first of seven titles with a score of 7601. The Black Knights were the runner up, followed by the Falcons with scores of 7384 and 7535, respectively, using the 120/40 shot scoring system. Prior to 2003, scoring for the match was based on the 120/40 shot scoring system for both smallbore and air rifle. The new system was implemented in 2004 with a 60/60 shot system for both rifles. Navy was second (5849) and Army was third (5785). Air Force claimed the top three spots in air rifle as Peninah D'Souza, Scott Rockett and Jordan Williams all shot 595. Dante Aletto shot 593 while Lauren Hurley and Victoria Leppert each shot 590 and Morgan Kreb shot 588. In smallbore, Hurley was the top Falcon, placing second overall at 584. Kreb shot 583, followed by D'Souza (582), Rockett (577), Williams (574) and Leppert (573). D'Souza was the top shooter overall with an aggregate score of 1177. Hurley was third overall at 1174 and Rockett was fifth overall at 1172.
The Rankings: Air Force's aggregate team score of 4725 on Oct. 7 vs. UTEP is the 13th best in the nation this season. Scott Rockett's 599 in air rifle on Oct. 7 is tied as the second best in the nation. Lauren Hurley's 1188 aggregate score on Oct. 7 is tied as the 11th best in the nation.

Despite the loss, the Falcons posted the fifth highest aggregate score (4721) and the fourth-highest smallbore (2342) in school history. Junior Lauren Hurley was the top Falcon, placing third overall with an 1186. Senior Morgan Kreb and junior Scott Rockett tied for fourth at 1180. Hurley placed third in smallbore (589), followed by Rockett (588) and Kreb (586). In air rifle, Hurley shot a 597, followed by Peninah D'Souza (595) and Kreb (594).
