Seniors lead Air Force past Army in rifle

U.S, AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – One day after winning its 10th straight President's Trophy, the Falcons defeated Army in a dual match, 4711-4693, Sunday, Nov. 5, in West Point, N.Y.
The Falcons had to come from behind for the victory as Army won the smallbore, 2334-2331. Air Force, one of the top air rifle teams in the nation, won the air rifle with a 2380-2359 score.
Seniors Peninah D'Souza and Morgan Kreb led the way for the Falcons, tying for second overall, each with an aggregate score of 1177. Fellow senior Dante Aletto was fourth overall at 1176. Junior Lauren Hurley shot an 1174 while sophomore Victoria Leppert and junior Scott Rockett each shot an 1173.
Army took the top spot in smallbore, but Aletto was second at 586, Kreb was fourth at 584, followed by Rockett (581), Hurley (580), Leppert (579) and D'Souza (578). Air Force took the top three spots in air rifle as D'Souza placed first with a 598, followed by Leppert (595) and Hurley (594). Kreb placed fifth (584), Rockett was sixth (592).
Aletto, who set a new career-best in aggregate in the President's Trophy with a 574, set a new one against Army with an 1176. Leppert matched her second-best aggregate score with an 1173. Aletto's team-best 586 in smallbore was the second best of his career. Leppert's 595 in air rifle ties her career best.
Air Force travels to the West Virginia Fall Classic, Nov. 11-12, in Morgantown, W.V.
