Air Force travels to West Virginia Fall Classic

This Week: The fifth-ranked Air Force rifle team will travel to Morgantown, W.V., for the West Virgina Fall Classic, Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 11-12, at 9 am ET each day. The Falcons will battle No. 1-ranked West Virginia, along with No. 4 Nebraska and No. 11 Murray State. Live scoring on both days will be available at MegaLink.
Strong Field: All four teams in this weekend's match qualified for the NCAA Championships last season. At last season's NCAA Championships, West Virginia finished fifth, Nebraska was sixth, Air Force was seventh and Murray State was eighth. West Virginia was third in smallbore while Air Force was third in air rifle.
The Rankings: Air Force's aggregate team average of 4717.8 is the fifth best in the nation. West Virginia's average of 4743.4 is the best in the nation. Air Force is fifth in both smallbore and air rifle. Scott Rockett's 599 in air rifle on Oct. 7 is tied as the second best in the nation. Lauren Hurley's 1188 aggregate score on Oct. 7 is tied as the 13th best in the nation.
Last Week: Air Force defeated Army and Navy to win its 10th straight President's Trophy, Nov. 4, in West Point, N.Y. Air Force won its 11th overall President's Trophy, the most among the service academies. The Falcons won the match with a 5892, while Navy was second (5856) and Army was third (5118). Air Force's team score is a record in the President's Trophy rivalry, besting the 5883 in 2021. The President's Trophy uses five counting scores, rather than the usual four counters in the NCAA format. Lauren Hurley was the Falcons' top individual, third overall, at 1182. Junior Scott Rockett was fourth (1179), followed by Peninah D'Souza (1177), Victoria Leppert (1176), Dante Aletto (1174) and Morgan Kreb (1172). Both Leppert and Aletto shot career-best scores. Hurley and Aletto each shot a 587, a career-best score for Aletto. Rockett and Kreb both shot a 584, followed by D'Souza and Leppert at 581. In air rifle, D'Souza was the top overall shooter with a 596. Hurley was third overall at 595, followed by Leppert with a career-best 595.

Seniors Peninah D'Souza and Morgan Kreb led the way for the Falcons, tying for second overall, each with an aggregate score of 1177. Fellow senior Dante Aletto was fourth overall at 1176.
