COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Following impressive starts to the track and field season at last week's Air Force Holiday Opener, junior Javin Bostic and the freshmen duo of James Warmbrod IV and Kori Leverenz were honored by the Mountain West this afternoon (Dec. 12), as they released their weekly awards. Bostic was named the MW Men's Track Athlete of the Week for the third time of his career, while Warmbrod and Leverenz were named MW Freshmen of the Week for the men and women, respectively.
Highlighted by NCAA Top 15 performances, Bostic swept the 60-meter and 200-meter titles at the Air Force Holiday Opener. A native of Stockbridge, Ga., Bostic recorded the second-fastest 60-meter time in program history (6.68 – just 0.01 off his own Academy Record) to win the 30-sprinter event by 0.13 seconds and break Jamiel Trimble's 2017 Junior Class Record, before adding a 21.41 time to win the 200-meter dash, set a Meet Record and better the 32-runner field by 0.34 seconds. With an altitude-adjusted time of 21.53a, Bostic currently leads the Mountain West and holds a Top 10 time (ninth) in the NCAA at 200 meters, while also ranking second in the conference and 15th in the nation at 60 meters (6.72a).
Warmbrod, a native of Nashville, Tenn., won the 400-meter dash in his collegiate debut at the Holiday Opener – clocking a conference-leading time of 48.63 (48.84a) to win the 19-runner field by 1.49 seconds. In addition to setting a Meet Record and producing a Top 30 national ranking at 400 meters, Warmbrod also finished sixth out of 32 runners in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.09 (22.21a). The native of Mount Vernon, Ind., who helped the Falcons to a 1-2 finish in both events, is currently ranked third at 200 meters (25.15a) and fifth at 400 meters (56.71a) in the Mountain West standings, while holding a Top 25 national ranking (24th) in the 400-meter dash.
