Air Force Impacts Top 10 During Indoor Home Finale

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – Backed by four improvements to the Air Force Top 10, the track and field team closed out the home portion of its indoor season in style this afternoon (Feb. 17), during the Air Force Collegiate Open at the Cadet Field House.
AIR FORCE TOP 10 MARKS
No. 2 – Javin Bostic, Men's 60-Meter Dash (6.71)
No. 6 – Brandon Lindner, Men's Long Jump (24'1½")
No. 7 – Katie Van Havel, Women's Long Jump (18'1½")
No. 10 – Brandon Lindner, Men's Triple Jump (48'9½")
The runways of the horizontal jumps provided excitement on Friday, as juniors Brandon Lindner and Katie Van Havel combined for three improvements to the program's all-time standings in the two jumps. With winning distances in both events, Lindner moved into a tie for sixth on the Academy's all-time long jump standings (24'1½") and debuted in the top 10 of the triple jump standings with a leap of 48'9½" – a one-foot improvement and the 10th-best mark in Air Force history. Lindner led the Falcons to two of the top-three finishes in the triple jump, as classmate John Colizzi finished third with a season-best mark of 46'4". On the women's side, Van Havel became just the second Falcon in 12 years to breach the 18-foot barrier in the long jump, as she recorded a career-best 18'1½" to move into seventh on the all-time standings.
Sophomore Javin Bostic continued to move up the program's all-time standings in the 60-meter dash, moving into second with a career-best time of 6.71 – a mark just 0.01 off the Academy standard during a winning effort in the 18-sprinter race. Overall, the Falcons' accounted for four of the top-six finishes in that distance, as senior Jacob Trach finished third in 6.87, junior Jackson Connelly finished fourth in career-best 6.91 and freshman Jett Rose placed sixth with a time of 7.09.
Lindner and Bostic accounted for three of the Falcons' five first-place place finishes. Junior Caiden Macktinger won the pole vault with a clearance of 17'0¾", while classmate Seth Meador posted a time of 8.15 to win the 60-meter hurdles and lead Air Force to two of the top-three finishes (junior Philip Hundl, third in 8.17).
Freshman Nic Davis was the top collegiate finisher in the shot put, placing second overall with a distance of 48'3¼", while sophomore Cooper Stroka added a top-five finish in the weight throw (56'3¾") and sophomore Charles Whitcomb finished sixth out of 21 runners in the 400-meter dash (50.66).
In addition to Van Havel's third-place finish in the long jump, the women earned a second top-three placement from freshman Nathalia Veal, who cleared 11'5¾" to finish third in the pole vault.
With the Air Force Collegiate Open complete, the Falcons turn their attention to the indoor postseason, which begins next Thursday (Feb. 23) at the Mountain West Indoor Track and Field Championships in Albuquerque.
