Air Force Falls at Stony Brook, 15-8

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Air Force dropped a 15-8 contest at LaValle Stadium on the campus of Stony Brook, Friday afternoon. The Falcons drop to 2-2 on the season while Sea Wolves notch their first victory of the season (1-2).
The Falcons raced out to a hot start with two-straight goals from Tommy Hellman and Aiden Tolen. The quarter went awry as Stony Brook rattled off six-straight goals to close the opening 15 minutes with a 6-2 lead. Air Force's leading scorer and play maker Brandon Dodd was not suited up for the game.
Air Force gained some confidence as they held the Sea Wolves scoreless in the second quarter. Tolen was the lone scorer in the quarter, notching his second goal in an unassisted attack.
The Sea Wolves got back to work out of the halftime break, outscoring AF 5-2 in the third quarter. Josh Yago and Kyle Griffith were credited with the goals via assists from Gavin Peene and Tolen, respectively.
Freshman attacker Caelan Driggs was first to score in the fourth quarter via feed from Chris Bardak. Josh Yago followed up with an unassisted goal and Aiden Tolen notched his hat trick to round out AF scoring for the day.
At the final horn Tolen had a season-best four points. The Falcons took 29 shots led by Yago's seven attempts and Tolen's five.
Junior defender Chris Bardak was a linchpin for the AF defense, causing two turnovers and scooping up six ground balls. Braden Gaab took the majority of face off attempts, winning nine of his 16 visits to the center dot. Senior goalie Jason Rose made nine saves in goal.
Next weekend, Air Force travels to Macon, Georgia, to square off against Mercer in ASUN Conference action, Saturday (March 4). Action at Five Star Stadium starts at 12 p.m. ET.
