Air Force outslugged by College of Charleston in 14-6 loss

CHARLESTON, S.C.- The Falcons fell victim to a powerful Cougars lineup, as Air Force was on the wrong end of a 14-6 score on Saturday.

Matt Thompson added three hits out of the leadoff spot, as the top position in the order is quickly becoming his home. The senior was 3-5, including a two-run triple in the 3rd.

Sam Kulasingam and Trayden Tamiya each had a pair of hits, while Jake Greiving and Aaron Reyes managed RBI singles.

The Falcons lineup struck out 11 times, while leaving nine runners on bases. Air Force has struck out 10+ times in seven games this season.

Dylan Rogers pitched into the 4th inning, allowing 10 hits, eight runs (seven earned) with one walk and three strikeouts. Duke Benge was tagged for six runs (three earned) over his two innings, though Ryan Stohr did well to provide some consistency late in the game, not allowing a run over the final three innings.

It was a tough day for Jay Thomason at third base, as the junior was responsible for two throwing errors.

The College of Charleston scored in six of its eight turns at the plate, while scoring at least three runs in three innings.

The Falcons trailed 6-0 going into the 4th, but Thompson's two-run triple and a run-scoring error trimmed the lead to 6-3 heading into the bottom half of the inning. However, a two-run 4th and a three-run 5th for the Cougars re-extended the home team's advantage to 11-3.

Air Force managed three runs in the 9th, but the scoring came too little late.

Next, Air Force returns to the northern part of the city to again play Charleston Southern on Sunday, March 5. First-pitch is scheduled for 11:00 am MT.
