
Golfers compete in Bandon Dunes Championship

THIS WEEK: The Air Force golf team travels to the Oregon coast for the 14th Bandon Dunes Championship, Sunday-Tuesday, March 12-14, at the Bandon Dunes Resort in Bandon, Ore. Live stats will be available at www.golfstat.com.
THE FORMAT: Golfers will play 18 holes each day in a shotgun start at 8:30 am PT each day at the par 72, 6,676-yard course.
THE FIELD: In addition to the host school, Idaho, Air Force will compete against Boise State, Drexel, Fresno State, James Madison, Long Beach State, No. 26 Oregon, Oregon State, Sacramento State, San Jose State, Santa Clara, Seattle, Seton Hall, SIU-Edwardsville, South Dakota, Utah and Washington State. The tournament features three other Mountain West teams and seven teams in the top 100
THE LINEUP: The Air Force lineup this week is: 1- Isaac Layne; 2-Cameron Kahle; 3-Alvaro Fonseca; 4-Brooks Morrell; 5-Ted Davenport; Independent-Christopher Park.
LAST TIME OUT: Senior Isaac Layne was the top Falcon at the Watersound Invitational, Feb. 19-21, at the Shark's Tooth Golf Course in Panama City Beach, Fla. Layne was the top Falcon on the final day with a 77 and led the team over the three-day tournament with a 225. Sophomore Cameron Kahle was second over the 54-hole event with a 228, followed by Christopher Park (240), Brooks Morrell (244) and Alvaro Fonseca (245). Vanderbilt, the No. 1 team in the nation, won the tournament with an 826 (-38). No. 12 Georgia Tech was second at 827 and No. 11 Florida State was third at 840. Air Force placed 11th with a 934. Eight of the top 40 teams in the nation competed in the tournament.
LAST YEAR AT BANDON DUNES: Christopher Park led the Falcons in the final round of the Bandon Dunes Championship at the Bandon Dunes Sheep Ranch Course, March 6-8, in Bandon, Ore. Park shot 74 on the final day to tie for 30th overall at 221. The Plano, Texas, native shot 73-74-74 over the 54-hole tournament. Isaac Layne shot 76 on the final day and came in at 232 for the tournament. Oregon won the team title with an 863 (+11). San Jose State was second (865), followed by ninth-ranked Kansas (866) and Utah (873). Air Force was 15th with a 923.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Sophomore Cameron Kahle leads the team with a 76.00 season stroke average. Senior team captain Isaac Layne is second at 76.09, followed by freshman Alvaro Fonseca (76.14) and freshman Brooks Morrell (77.80). All four have played all 21 rounds this season. Air Force's best team score this season came at the Ka'anapali Collegiate with an 893. The team's low round of the season came in the third round at the Ka'anapali with a 289.
ON THE HORIZON: After the Bandon Dunes Championship, the Falcons will compete in the Haskins Award Invitational, April 1-2, in Augusta, Ga.
