COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Following a record-setting performance in the 10,000-meter run at last week's Stanford Invitational, Air Force senior Ryan Johnson was selected as the Mountain West Men's Track Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced this afternoon (April 4). It is the first career honor for the Parker, Colo., native.
Johnson shattered the Academy Record in the 10,000-meter run during a stellar night under the lights at the famed Stanford Invitational on March 31. Crossing the finish line of the Elite section in a time of 28:20.70, Johnson deleted 13 seconds off a program standard that had stood since 2009. With that finish, he also became the fastest 10K'er at any service academy, as he took seven seconds off an all-academy record that had been in place since 1997.
With his 28:20.70, Johnson leads the conference by nearly 18 seconds and is ranked ninth in the NCAA.
