Air Force Men’s Tennis Completes Day Three Hosting ITA Bedford Cup

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force men's tennis completed day three action at the 2023 ITA Bedford Cup In The Mountains this Sunday, at the Air Force Outdoor Intercollegiate Tennis Courts.

The Falcons picked up a pair of doubles wins and a singles win in final day competition.

In doubles play, the duo of Kabir Rajpal and Michael Choi won the South draw final with a win over Chen/Wells of BYU 7-6 (10-8). Air Force also picked up a win in extra doubles as Luke Wolf and Jack Brown defeated Relic/Necz or Montana State 7-6 (8-6). The Falcons also reached the West draw final, but the duo of Arjun Kersten and Nick Vroman fell to Bittner/Zhang of Montana 6-4.

In singles play, the Falcons had sophomore AJ Moore and freshman Michael Choi playing in the finals of their draws. Moore fell to Stijn Paardekooper of Utah State in the B main draw 7-5, 7-4. Choi fell to Rikuto Yamaguchi or Denver in the C main draw 3-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3.

Freshman Alec Fritzinger and Jack Brown won their singles matches as well. Kabir Rajpal dropped his singles match in extra match play.

"Our team competed well in the first home tournament of our fall season. I'm especially proud of how our guys supported each other. The fall emphasizes individuals, and that can be a challenge for a team like ours which is built on depth and is so focused on a "team first" attitude. We thrive in the dual match environment. Credit to AJ Moore on a great weekend. He has shown a lot of improvement over the summer. He's been putting in extra time on court, and it boosted his confidence and composure this weekend. Michael Choi, a freshman, had another great tournament, getting to the finals in his singles bracket. He's a competitor, and makes it tough on his opponents using relentless pressure from his groundstrokes. It was a thrill to watch our entire team play. I was so grateful for the support from Falcon nation, and we'll be back next week Thursday at home for Regionals. It's the first time we've ever hosted this prestigious event, and provides home court advantage as we compete with the best players in our region."
