Falcons Post Nine Wins In Opening Day Of ITA Bedford Cup

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force men's tennis opened day one play at the 2025 ITA Bedford Cup In The Mountains this Friday, Sept. 26, at the Air Force Outdoor Intercollegiate Tennis Courts.
Air Force picked up nine wins on the day, including five of six in singles play.
In doubles, the pair of AJ Moore and Matthew Staton led the way with wins in the opening round and second round to advance to the quarterfinals Saturday. Air Force fared well as a group, as all three pairings won their opening doubles matches.
Moore and Staton opened with a 6-4 win over Calaquian/Masselis of Montana State. They then defeated Mills/Volesky of Northern Arizona 6-1 to advance.
Jack Brown and Tyler Leaird won their opening match to Edmonston/Hardy of BYU 6-4. They dropped their second match to Amadike/Moroder of Idaho 7-5. Alec Fritzinger and Caden Lee won their opener over Janson/De Col of Idaho 6-4. They dropped their second match to Hasler/Wells of BYU 6-3.
In singles, the Falcons won five of six matches on the day, with three rallying back to win after dropping the first set.
In the Lightning draw, Jack Brown and AJ Moore picked up wins. Brown defeated Brody Nejedly of Utah State 7-6 (4), 6-2 and Moore defeated Eddie Biss of Montana State 7-5, 6-1.
In the Raptor draw, both Alec Fritzinger and Matthew Staton rallied back in three sets to earn wins. Fritzinger defeated Roko Stipetic of New Mexico State 6-7 (7), 7-6 (6), 6-3. Staton defeated Ethan Masselis of Montana State in three sets, 2-6, 6-2, 6-1.
In the Falcon draw, Tyler Leaird rallied back in three sets to defeat Franco Alexis Quijano of Weber State 5-7, 7-6 (3), 6-2. Caden Lee dropped his match to. Daniels Tens of NAU 7-5, 6-0.
"We had a great start to the Bedford Cup as a team", head coach Evan Urbina said. "I was happy to see our doubles teams execute the basic things we always talk about. In the losses, as usual, it comes down to a couple points. In singles, I was most proud of turning three-of-four matches where we lost the first set. That resilience is a must in college tennis. AJ and Matt were undefeated today, but it's just day one. Go Falcs!"
Day two action resumes tomorrow beginning at 9 am with the doubles quarterfinals and doubles consolations quarterfinals, followed by the singles semis and consolation semis.
