COLORADO SPRINGS- Air Force opened the new calendar with a win over Colorado School of Mines, as the Falcons outpaced the Orediggers to the tune of a 164.00-98.00.
"This was definitely our best day of racing of the year," said head swimming coach Rob Clayton. "We had many guys swim to season bests, and it was just a great way to start the second semester."
The Falcons began the afternoon with the 200 Medley Relay, as the team of Joseph Moore, Tommy Nagle, James Winterfield, and Chase Dwornicki managed a winning time of 1:32.86.
In addition to the relay victory, Winterfield also swam to a win the 200 Freestyle (1:41.79) and the 100 Butterfly (50.63). His 100 Butterfly time this afternoon now stands as his best of the season.
Dwornicki had a heck of a day as well, winning both the 50 Freestyle (21.29) and 100 Freestyle (46.89). His time in the latter event was the fastest of his freshman season.
Bridon Rosales (57.21), Mack Nuval (57.61), and Anthony Sebastian (57.72) finished 1-2-3 in the 100 Breaststroke. Later in the day, the 200 Breaststroke saw Sebastian earn the race's quickest time (2:07.54), while Rosales placed second after his 2:11.08.
Kellen Russell laid claim to a win in the 200 Butterfly, notching a time of 1:56.61. Daniel Detjen swam to a second place standing following his 1:57.19.
Louis Body continued Air Force's winning ways, recording the top time in the 200 Backstroke with a 1:54.40.
In the final individual event, Camden Swigart took top standing in the 200 IM, winning the race with a 1:56.08.
"We got a lot of momentum today that we are hoping to continue to build on as we prepare for the WAC Championships," said Clayton. "We had some young guys that did some great things out there."
Next, Air Force will prepare for a trip to Provo, Utah for a tri-meet with BYU and Colorado Mesa. The two-day meet begins Friday, January 19.
