Air Force sweeps The Citadel

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – The Air Force rifle team swept a pair of duals against the Citadel, Jan. 21, in Charleston, S.C.

Air Force (8-5) won the first match, 4716-4625. In the second match, Air Force won 4722-4388, posting the second highest team score of the season and the highest since a season-opening 4725 against UTEP.

Lauren Hurley and Morgan Kreb tied for first in aggregate score in the first match with an 1180. Scott Rockett was third (1180), Peninah D'Souza was fourth (1177), Victoria Leppert was sixth (1166) and Dante Aletto (1164) was seventh. Hurley tied for the top score in smallbore with a 590. D'Souza won the air rifle with a 597.

Rockett won the aggregate scoring in the second match, tying his season high with an 1185. D'Souza was second (1181), followed by Hurley (1178), Kreb (1178), Aletto (1171), Leppert (1171) and Megan Torrence (1171).

Several Falcons set new personal bests in the matches. Aletto set a new career high with a 591 in air rifle. D'Souza matched her career best with a 597 in smallbore and shot a season-best 1181 aggregate. Hurley tied her career high with a 590 in smallbore. Leppert shot a career-best 583 in smallbore. Rockett shot a season high 589 in smallbore and tied his season best with an 1185 aggregate. Torrence, a freshman from Calhan, Colo., set new career highs in smallbore (578), air rifle (tied-593) and aggregate (1171).

Air Force hosts Ohio State, Sunday, Jan. 28, at 9 am at the Cadet Rifle Range.
