The Rankings: Air Force's season aggregate average of 4715.3 is seventh in the nation. Ohio State is ninth at 4705.45. The Falcons rank sixth in both smallbore and air rifle. Peninah D'Souza's air rifle average of 595.2 is the 14th best in the nation this season. Hurley and Peninah D'Souza have each shot a 598 in air rifle, tying as the 15th-best mark in the nation this season. Hurley's season average of 1179.018 leads the team, followed by Scott Rockett (1178.875), Morgan Kreb (1177.625) and Peninah D'Souza (1176.125).
Facing the Buckeyes: Air Force defeated ninth-ranked Ohio State in a tri-meet in Fort Worth, Texas, Jan. 14. Air Force shot a 4708 to finish ahead of Ohio State (4699). Senior Morgan Kreb was the top Falcon in aggregate scoring with an 1182. Peninah D'Souza shot an 1177. Kreb was the top Falcon in smallbore with a 588, D'Souza was the top Falcon in air rifle with a 596.
Last Time Out: Air Force swept a pair of duals against The Citadel, Jan. 21, in Charleston, S.C. Air Force (9-5) won the first match, 4716-4625. In the second match, Air Force won 4722-4388, posting the second highest team score of the season and the highest since a season-opening 4725 against UTEP. Several Falcons set new personal bests in the matches. Aletto set a new career high with a 591 in air rifle. D'Souza matched her career best with a 597 in smallbore and shot a season-best 1181 aggregate. Hurley tied her career high with a 590 in smallbore. Leppert shot a career-best 583 in smallbore. Rockett shot a season high 589 in smallbore and tied his season best with an 1185 aggregate. Torrence, a freshman from Calhan, Colo., set new career highs in smallbore (578), air rifle (tied-593) and aggregate (1171).
On the Horizon: Air Force travels to Columbus, Ohio, for a tri-meet with Ohio State and Alaska, Feb. 1, followed by the Patriot Rifle Conference championships, Feb. 3-4, in Fort Wayne, Ind.
