
No. 7 Air Force Ready for Patriot Rifle Championships, Feb. 3-4

This Week: Seventh-ranked Air Force will compete in a tri-meet, Thursday, Feb. 1, against Ohio State and Alaska, in Columbus, Ohio. The Falcons will then travel to Fort Wayne, Ind., for the annual Patriot Rifle Conference Championships, Saturday-Sunday, Feb. 3-4. Live scoring will be available at MegaLink.
About the PRC Championships: Five of the six teams in the PRC are ranked in the top 10 in the nation. Air Force, ranked seventh in the nation, will compete for the conference title against No. 2 TCU, No.4 Alaska, No. 8 Nebraska , No. 9 Ohio State and No. 19 UTEP. TCU won the 2023 PRC Championships and has won three of the last four (2020, 2021 and 2023). Alaska won the title in 2022 Air Force won the title in 2019.
The Rankings: Air Force's season aggregate average of 4717.82 is sixth in the nation. The Falcons rank fifth in smallbore and sixth in air rifle. Peninah D'Souza's air rifle average of 595.2 is the 14th best in the nation this season. Hurley and D'Souza have each shot a 598 in air rifle, tying as the 15th-best mark in the nation this season. Hurley's season average of 1179.6 (19th in the nation) leads the team, followed by Morgan Kreb (1178.818) Scott Rockett (1178.647), and Peninah D'Souza (1177582).
Last Season at PRC: Air Force placed fourth at the Patriot Rifle Conference Championships, Feb. 4-5, 2023, in Fairbanks, Alaska. A pair of Falcons earned all-conference honors in air rifle as Lauren Hurley placed third and Peninah D'Souza placed sixth. Both Hurley and D'Souza shot a 596 in the air rifle competition to qualify for the final round. Hurley earned air rifle all-conference honors for the second time in her career. D'Souza earned all-conference for the first time.
TCU won the PRC title with an aggregate score of 4750. Alaska was second (4749) and Nebraska was third (4724). Air Force places fourth (4708), followed by Ohio State (4694) and UTEP was sixth (4567).
Air Force placed fourth for the second straight year. The team score of 4708 was the highest in the PRC Championship since that same score won the league title in 2019.
Last Time Out: Air Force, ranked seventh in the nation, set a new school record in smallbore and tied the aggregate school record in a 4736-4000 win over No. 9 Ohio State, Sunday, Jan. 28, at the Academy's Cadet Rifle Range. The 4736 ties the record also shot against TCU in 2022. The smallbore score of 2355 broke the previous record of 2350 set against TCU in 2022. Senior Morgan Kreb won the aggregate with a career-best 1188. Kreb's 593 in smallbore was a career best. Lauren Hurley was second in aggregate with an 1186 and Peninah D'Souza was third with a season-best 1185. D'Souza's 590 in smallbore was a career best. Victoria Leppert shot 1170 and Scott Rockett shot 1170. Kreb (593), D'Souza (590) and Hurley (589) placed 1-2-3 in smallbore. Hurley won the air rifle (597), followed by Kreb (595) and D'Souza (595).
On the Horizon: Air Force hosts an NCAA Qualifier against TCU, Saturday, Feb. 17, at 8 am at the Cadet Rifle Range.
