COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Highlighted by a pair of top 10 finishes, the younger members of the Air Force cross country team had a strong outing at the Colorado Springs XC Open, hosted by UCCS, this morning (Oct. 19) in Colorado Springs.
The men picked up a pair of top-10 finishes in the non-scoring 8K around Monument Valley Park this morning. Freshman Junior Allen paced Air Force with a seventh-place tie time of 24:36.8, while classmate David Sliwinski clocked a 25:46.2 finish to place 10th.
A trio of classmates also finished within the top half of the men's field. Cody Kelley clocked a top-25 time of 26:01.7, while Alexander Pinckney finished 31st in a time of 26:15.1 and Patrick Allen rounded out the lineup with a 53rd-place time of 26:55.8
On the women's side, freshman Jasleen Sidhu paced Air Force's newcomers to a pair of top-25 finishes. Sidhu posted a 6K time of 22:59.6 to finish 21st in the 101-runner field, while Carrigan Eberly was close on her heels in 23rd (23:00.2) Fellow freshman Grace Mullin and sophomore newcomer Rachel Fereday added top-30 finishes, as the pair finished 32nd (23:28.9) and 36th (23:33.4), respectively. Three other Falcons also completed the 6K course around MVP, with Leilani Harris placing within the top half of the field (50th, 24:05.2). Colleen Kelly and Kaylee Jenish finished 58th (24:27.7) and 87th (26:15.5), respectively, to round out the Falcons' lineup.
"Some of our newcomers showed strong improvement today, compared to previous races this season," Ryan Cole, Air Force's director of track & field and cross country said. "That improvement process will be key as we look ahead to the future, so very productive day for both our men's and women's teams."
The Falcons are back in action next Saturday (Oct. 19), when they make their second trip of the year to Madison, Wis., for Pre-Nationals.
