The Falcon Athletic Fund announced today that the Thin Air Society, the leadership giving society in support of Air Force Athletics, its 27 intercollegiate programs and 1,000 cadet-athletes, has surpassed its first 100 members. The Thin Air Society's mission is to increase philanthropic contributions for Air Force Athletics, supporting operational needs, facility improvements and other critical elements throughout the department.
The goal of the Thin Air Society is to provide an additional $5 million in restricted and unrestricted gifts, to the current Falcon Athletic Fund annual fundraising total. The first 100 members have pledged over $4.2 million to Air Force Athletics. Thin Air Society donors represent 23 different USAFA graduating classes.
"Membership in the Thin Air Society represents one of the highest levels of commitment a supporter can make to Air Force Athletics, the Falcon Athletic Fund, and our cadet-athletes.", said Director of Athletics, Nathan Pine. "I would like to thank our first 100 Thin Air Society members for their leadership and investment in our cadet-athletes as they compete, develop, Fly, Fight, and Win."
To become a Thin Air Society member supporters must make a pledge of $25,000 or more over a five-year period or an annual cash gift of $25,000 or greater. Thin Air Society members can designate their gift to a specific fund or program of their choice. Funds include the Excellence in Athletics Fund, all 27 intercollegiate programs, boxing, spirit squads, and other important athletic department strategic initiatives.
While philanthropic in nature, Thin Air Society members do get the benefit of unique stewardship opportunities, based on their giving level, tailored to the donor's preferences. The greatest reward of being a Thin Air Society member will always be knowing that each gift will have an impact on the overall development of leaders of character and future officers for our Air and Space Forces.
