This Week: Air Force, ranked seventh in the nation in the CRCA poll, travels to El Paso, Texas, for a dual against No. 19 UTEP, Saturday, Oct, 19. Live scoring will be available at MegaLink.
About the Miners: UTEP opened the season Oct. 12 at the Academy in a tri-meet against Air Force and Nebraska. UTEP shot a 4617 in the meet. Freshman Carlee Valenta led the squad with a score of 1158 in her college debut. Close behind, Amy Visconti contributed with a solid 1156, whil Isavella Rios followed with a score of 1154.
Last Week: Air Force opened the 2024-25 season by defeating No. 13 Nebraska and No. 19 UTEP, Oct. 12, at the Academy's Cadet Rifle Range. Air Force shot a 4719, while Nebraska shot 4105 and UTEP shot 4018. Senior Lauren Hurley won the overall aggregate, and tied her career-best, with an 1188. She also tied her career-best in smallbore with a 592. Freshman Lillian Wytko, in her first collegiate meet, was second in aggregate at 1183. Junior Victoria Leppert was fourth overall at 1170 and sophomore Megan Torrence was seventh at 1166. Wytko won the air rifle with a career-best 597. Hurley second (596), Torrence and Leppert tied for third (595). Torrence tied her career high in air rifle. Hurley won the smallbore competition, and tied her career- best, with a 592. Wytko was third (396), Scott Rockett was fifth (583) and Victoria Leppert was eighth (575).
NCAA Rankings: Air Force's 4719 on opening day is the 10th best score in the nation this season. The air rifle score of 2383 is the sixth best in the nation and the fifth best in school history. Lauren Hurley's aggregate score of 1188 is tied as the fifth best in the nation. Hurley's 592 in smallbore is the ninth best.
The Returners: Air Force returns a pair of All-Americans in senior co-captains Lauren Hurley and Scott Rockett. Hurley, from Wilsonville, Ore., has earned All-America honors all three seasons, including second-team air rifle honors the last two years. Rockett, from Cary, N.C., has also earned All-America honors all three seasons. He was the NCAA air rifle national champion as a freshman and earned second-team smallbore honors last season. Junior Victoria Leppert shot in every event last season and posted a career-high 599 in air rifle to lead the team at the Patriot Rifle Conference Championships last season. Sophomore Megan Torrence shot in all but two events last season and had career highs of 578 in smallbore and 593 in air rifle. Sophomores Pruitt Bain, Elijah Butler and William Steen and freshman Bethany Butler, Lillian Wytko, Caden Cavanaugh and Rushil Punukollu round out the roster.
