USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force men's water polo (11-12, 0-1 WCC) dropped a 24-13 game to #5 Pepperdine (15-5, 1-0 WCC) Sunday afternoon in the team's West Coast Conference opener at the Cadet Natatorium.
Air Force started by trading goals with Pepperdine with the game knotted up at 2-2. The Wave went on to out-score the Falcons 4-2 over the rest of the quarter to take a 6-3 lead.
Pepperdine would go up 9-5 in the second quarter, but the Falcons closed the gap to three at 10-7 at halftime. Jacob Yi scored as the second quarter clock expired for the seventh goal.
The Waves began to pull away in the second-half, outscoring the Falcons 8-4 in the third quarter. Air Force added two more scores in the fourth.
Kaito Ham, Tom Leggett and Alex Zarcu led the Falcons with three goals each. Luca Smith started in goal for the Falcons. Jay Pyle subbed in for Smith after the first quarter and recorded a pair of saves.
Air Force returns to action next weekend with four games across three days. The Falcons take on top ranked Stanford Friday and then participate in the Julian Fraser Memorial Tournament in San Jose on Saturday and Sunday.
