Air Force Falls at California Baptist, 4-2

RIVERSIDE – Air Force fell to Western Athletic Conference foe California Baptist, 4-2, Thursday evening at CBU Soccer Stadium in Riverside. CBU, the third ranked team in the conference, improved to 5-6-5 overall (4-3-1 WAC).

Air Force (1-14-1, 1-7 WAC) tallied two goals in the second half run behind seniors Carter Rizzo and Nick Bisagno. The Falcons put up a season best seven shots on goal behind team captain Rizzo, senior midfielder Bisagno, and freshman midfielder Oliver Becker who attempted two shots on target each. Senior Ben Wunsch accounted for a threatening shot on goal in the 73^rd minute.

Jiro Uchida (40') and Leo Mendez (44') tallied CBU strikes in the first half, Tizian Marth and Uchida servicing the assists, respectively. Mendez notched his fourth goal this season five minutes into the second half in an unassisted strike to put the Lancers up, 3-0.

Undeterred, Air Force rallied behind Rizzo's goal in the 57^th minute. The Lancers' Andrew Lovell responded with a goal (64') via assist from Mendez who finished the match with four points. Keeping the fire burning, Bisagno tallied a strike just two minutes later (66') to keep the Falcons alive.

Despite the best efforts of the Falcons, California Baptist fended of the Air Force attack until the final horn.

In 90 minutes of action, AF attempted 15 shots to the Lancers' 28. Rizzo led the charge with four shots, two on target. Freshman keeper Brody smith made five saves in his eighth appearance. CBU goalie Hugo De Rogo earned his fifth win with five saves.

Senior defender Andrew Durkin, sophomore Noah Higbie, and freshman Andrei Bulankou clocked 90 minutes of action in the defensive effort.

Next up, Air Force travels to San Diego for the regular season finale against WAC frontrunner San Diego State, on Sunday (Nov. 3). Action at SDSU Sports Deck is slated for noon PT.
