LAS VEGAS – Air Force women's tennis, taking on the opening Mountain West Fall Qualifier, picked up a win in singles but was unable to secure a qualifier into the upcoming ITA Conference Masters Tournament this November.
Freshman Sofia Mavor, after a hot start at the season-opening Bedford Cup in which she earned Air Force's second-ever singles title in the event and a few wins in D.C against Army/Navy, logged the Falcons' one win of the week in the singles consolation round. After falling against San Diego State's Jo-Yee Chan to open the tournament, Mavor claimed a day-two win, downing San Jose State's Carla Urchoeguia, 6-3, 6-3. Urchoeguia, a Louisiana transfer, was team captain for the Ragin' Cajuns and led the program in total wins (13) in 2023-24.
Mavor improves to 5-3 in fall action; Sophomore Nadia Kojonroj and junior Arianna Van Houweling both went 0-2 in singles on the weekend to finish at 4-3 and 3-4, respectively; Doubles pairing Mavor/Van Houweling fell in single elimination action on Tuesday, falling to 3-2 as a pair and 4-3 and 5-2 individually.
