USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – The Air Force volleyball team closed out the home portion of its 2024 schedule this evening (Nov. 16) with a three-set loss to Boise State. The Broncos, playing for the chance to secure the final spot in the upcoming conference tournament, defeated the Falcons 25-17, 25-15, 26-24.
Senior Ella Tschuor, in her final match at Cadet East Gym, paced Air Force with eight kills and two blocks (both assisted), while freshman Brooksie Isham added six kills and junior Alex Hatchett tied Tschuor for the blocking lead with a pair of assisted stops. Fellow junior Jordan Suan collected a team-high eight digs and the Falcons' only service ace, while freshman Mia Loyd rounded out the stat leaders with 14 assists.
Freshman Grace Fiaseu put the Falcons on the board (1-2) with a kill that sent senior Mac Russ – who has missed the majority of the season with health issues – back to the serving line for her final appearance in an Air Force volleyball uniform. Kills from Tschuor and Isham tied the set at three, but Boise State rattled off the next five points that sent the Falcons into an early timeout trailing 3-8. A kill from senior Mekayla Dedo sparked a four-point swing by Air Force that pulled them within one (7-8) and sent Boise State to the bench. Dedo added another score, but the Broncos quickly pushed their advantage out to six at the 15-9 mark. A kill from Isham helped break up another run by the visitors, as Boise State pushed ahead to a 23-13. Dedo, Fiaseu, and Hatchett added kills, while Fiaseu teamed up with Isham for a block, but Boise State won the opening frame by a 25-17 margin.
A kill from Isham and two Boise State miscues helped Air Force to a quick 3-1 lead in the second. The Broncos quickly evened the set at three and scored five of the next six points to double-up the Falcons at 8-4. Boise State pushed its lead to five (11-6), before the Suan ace and back-to-back kills from junior Ashley Bible brought Air Force within two (10-12). Boise State halted the Falcons' run and used an 11-2 run to take a 23-12 advantage. Tschuor put down another kill and teamed up with Hatchett for a block, but the Broncos put down the final points for the 25-15 win.
Kills from Tschuor and Fiaseu, as well as another Hatchett/Tschuor block gave the Falcons a 4-1 lead to start the third. Boise State again responded, scoring seven of the next eight points to take an 8-5 lead. Air Force answered with a 5-1 run to retake the lead (10-9), while kills from Tschuor and Bible pushed the Falcons' lead to two (14-12). Two more kills from the senior extended Air Force's margin to three at 18-15, but Boise State came back to event the set at 19. A kill and solo stop from Bible gave the lead back to Air Force at 21-19, but the Broncos evened the set two plays later and the two teams started trading points. Kills from Fiaseu (22-21) and Tschuor (23-22) broke the next two ties and another strike from the senior evened the set at 24-all, but Boise State was able to score the final two points for the 26-24 win.
