Taylor Eclipses 1,000 Points In 82-48 Rout of Mercyhurst

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force men's basketball (2-4) defeated Mercyhurst (4-3), 82-48, Sunday afternoon as part of the Cal Classic MTE at Clune Arena. Senior guard Ethan Taylor passed the 1,000-point mark on an afternoon that saw the Falcons shoot 65 percent from the field and 71 percent from three-point range.
After a close first-half, where Air Force took a seven point-lead at the half, the Falcons erupted for 51 second-half points on a day where shots were hard to miss.
Air Force shot 77 percent from the field (20-26) in the second half and 91 percent from three (10-11).
Taylor notched his third double-double of the season with 21 points and 10 rebounds. He was 7-of-10 from three-point range. Taylor became the 29th player in program history to reach the 1,000-point mark.
Joining Taylor in double-figures were sophomores, center Wesley Celichowski and forward Luke Kearney. Celichowski scored 14 points in the post and Kearney added 12 points on four three's.
Senior Jeffrey Mills also had a big day, scoring eight points and dishing out a career-high 10 assists. Air Force had 26 assists on 31 baskets on the day.
Four Falcons made their collegiate debuts. Sophomore Sam Akinrelere and Josh Gatete and freshmen Will Cooper and A.J. Patterson made their debuts. Cooper scored four points and Gatete and Patterson had an assist each.
Mercyhurst was held to 33.3 percent shooting on the day. Guard Aidan Reichert led the Lakers with 11 points.
Air Force's 34-point win was its biggest in five years, dating back to a 105-56 win over UC Riverside on Dec. 31, 2019.
Air Force returns to action Wednesday, Nov. 27, hosting Sacramento State in the final game of the Cal Classic MTE. The game is slated for a 2 pm MT tip at Clune Arena.
