Two Falcons Claim Wing Open Titles

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – Freshman Naomi Brabham and sophomore KJ Johnson captured the first Wing Open titles of the 2024 tournament this afternoon (Feb. 23), as members of the Air Force boxing team converged on the Cadet Gym for a special edition of Friday Night Fights.
Brabham continued her strong freshman campaign with a 112-pound victory over sophomore Charlotte McPhee-Gillum, while Johnson made quick work of classmate Dominic Feliz – forcing the bout to stop in the second round of their 132-pound championship.

132-lbs.: KJ Johnson RSC-2 Dominic Feliz
In addition to the two championship bouts, the remainder of the bracket was finalized on Friday. Sophomore Duong Tran decisioned freshman Freddie Ceciliano Jr at 125 pounds, while freshman Sebastyan Correa Rios earned the 139-pound victory in his bout with classmate Kenichiro Leong. Sophomore Jaxon Wardle decisioned senior Keillan Laurenceau at 156 pounds, while sophomore Neo Takazawa advanced by walkover on the other side of the bracket. Also in the lighter weights, junior Peyton Glenn decisioned freshman Katie Beavis in the women's 139-pound semifinal.
Freshman Jonathon Watson advanced out of the 165-pound bracket after forcing the referee to stop his bout with classmate Nicolas Villegas in the second round, while sophomore Nick Post earned the decision in his 185-pound bout with fellow sophomore Dylan Barrios. Seniors Joe Wilson and Nasir Rashid will meet in the finals of the 195-pound bracket, after Wilson earned an RSC (firstround) win over freshman Isaac Kreft and Rashid took the decision over sophomore Alexander Thue. Freshman Justin Bonilla earned his first trip to the championship round after causing the referee to stop his contest with classmate Reggie Naughton in the second round.
