Falcons roll to shutout win over Midshipmen

KINSTON- The Falcons fired on all cylinders on Saturday, as some early offense coupled with superb pitching led Air Force to a 10-0 win in Game Two of the Freedom Classic. The game was called after seven innings due to an agreed upon run-rule by both coaching staffs.
Coach Kaz's group picked up right where they left on Friday, producing runs early and often.
Chris Stallings managed the first three-hit game of his career, as the senior finished 3-5 with 3 RBIs, 2 runs scored, and a stolen base. Stallings roped a pair of run scoring base-hits in the 1st and 4th innings, as the Texan is 5-8 with 5 RBIs in the first two games of the Freedom Classic.
In the cleanup spot, Jake Greiving slugged his first home run of 2024, a two-run home run in the 4th that paved a 10-0 Air Force lead. Greiving finished 2-4 with 3 RBIs, as the senior also lifted a sacrifice fly in the opening inning.
Sam Kulasingam reached base in all five of his plate appearances, going 2-2 with three walks, a stolen base, and an RBI. Zach Peters provided his first collegiate hit and RBI in the 3rd, lining a run-scoring single into the left field corner.
Chase Spencer was 1-3 with an RBI, while Walker Zapp was 0-2, though the sophomore also was credited with a sacrifice fly in the 3rd.
Of importance, Aerik Joe extended his on-base streak to 40-consecutive games after drawing a pair of walks, while Christian Taylor picked up his first collegiate hit in the 6th.
Dylan Rogers, making his first start of 2024, was outstanding. As the Falcons led 6-0 after the first three innings, Rogers' outing was cut short, but the junior allowed just one hit with four strikeouts, retiring nine of the 10 batters he faced.
Jimmy Hebenstreit and Davis Rhyne each were given 2.0 innings, with the pair closing with nearly identical lines. Hebenstreit didn't allow a hit over his two scoreless innings, while Rhyne worked around a walk and a hit-batter to also post two zeroes.
The win moves Air Force to 20-18 all-time against Navy in the city limits of Kinston, as the Falcons have the opportunity for the first-ever sweep of the Freedom Classic.
The rivalry will close tomorrow, with Game Three at Grainger Stadium scheduled for 10:30 am MT on Sunday, February 25.
