COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Following a strong weekend on the road, senior Sean Maison and freshman Wyatt Curl were honored by the Mountain West this afternoon (Feb. 6), as the conference office announced that Maison was named the MW Men's Track Athlete of the Week and Curl was honored as the MW Men's Freshman of the Week.
It is the first conference award for both Falcons.
Crossing the finish line in a time of 4:05.47, Maison placed second out of 36 runners in the mile at the Colorado Invitational on Feb. 2 – accounting for the best finish by a Division I runner. Maison, competing in his first race of the 2023-24 season, is currently ranked third in the conference with an altitude-adjusted time of 3:59.49a. That time was just 0.16 seconds off his career-best and would be the fourth-fastest time in Academy history, if the Wheaton, Ill., native didn't already hold the No. 3 spot.
Curl, competing in his first collegiate multi-meet, had a 4837-point performance at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic on Feb. 2-3 to debut at No. 17 on the Academy's all-time standings. Currently ranked eighth in the Mountain West with that tally, the West Lafayette, Ind., native was one of just three freshmen in the 14-competitor event. Contributing to his total was a career-best mark in the long jump, event debuts in the high jump and 1000-meter run, and top-four scores in the final two events.
