Air Force Downs Queens in ASUN Opener

USAF ACADEMY – Air Force outscored Queens University Charlotte, 14-10, in the ASUN Conference opener, Saturday afternoon, at the Holaday Athletic Center. The Falcons improve to 2-4 with their first league win while Queens drops to 1-4.
Eight Falcons scored 14 goals led by freshman Turner Ashby's three goals and first collegiate hat trick. He has 10 goals this season. Caelan Driggs, Josh Yago, Aidan Tolen, and Cole Rassas put up two goals apiece while Wes Peene, Matt Rubino, and Jake Mason were good for one goal each. Yago, Peene, and Alexander Stepney notched two assists each. Yago has three four-point games this season and leads the team with 19 points.
Air Force outshot the Royals, 42-27, marking the most shot attempts taken by the Falcons this season. Ashby, who had two goals in the first quarter, took a game-high and career-best nine shot attempts. Driggs to a game-high five shots on goal in six attempts.
Jake Knapp had a strong showing at the center X, winning 17 face offs in 27 attempts (.630). The Falcons won the ground ball battle, picking 34 to Queens' 24. Senior team captain Chris Bardak picked up a game-best seven ground balls while teammates Knapp and Cole Cunningham scooped up six each.
In cage, Nolan Parlette made five saves in 40 minutes of action. In relief, Quinn Richards made a save in 18 minutes of gametime.
Queens was led by Brendan Nace and Ethan Scaffidi with two goals each. Wesley Wheat made 10 saves in goal for the Royals.
Next up, Air Force travels to Salt Lake City to take on the reigning ASUN champions, Utah, in conference action. Face off is slated for noon MT. The Falcons aim to avenge last season's loss to the Utes in the ASUN Championship game.
