
Women’s tennis drops 4-1 decision at Fresno State

FRESNO, Calif. – The Air Force women's tennis team fought it out at Fresno State on Friday afternoon, earning one singles win and a pair of set victories, but the Falcons ultimately went down to the Bulldogs, 4-1.
Sporting a new-look doubles lineup for the second-straight match, the Falcons fell on lines one and two in doubles as Fresno State clinched the opening point of the day. Nadia Kojonroj/Arianna Van Houweling, after garnering a 6-4 win in their first match as a pair against UNLV, fell 6-2 to the Bulldogs' lead off pair, Misaki Kobayashi/Matilde Magrini.
Freshman duo Giovanna Sanchirico/Joselyn Limbago, playing up on line two for the second time in match play, fell 6-1 to Eliza Dunbar/Carolina Piferi. With the win, the Fresno pairing improved to 7-1 on the season.
On court three, senior Isabella Flodin/Alexis Odom held an early 2-1 lead over Charlotte Gisclon/Hannah Pieper but trailed 5-2 when Fresno clinched the doubles point.
In singles, junior Alexis Odom notched the Falcons' one point of the day, earning a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Bulldog Mariya Vishkina, leading by as much as three games in both sets on the way to the straight-set win.
One line one, Van Houweling took her first set after leading by 4-1 over Fresno's Magrini. The sophomore trailed in the second set, 6-3, when her match was called.
On court six, Sanchirico, after falling 6-1 in her opening set against Dunbar, battled through a second set in which neither player could gain a two-game advantage, until Dunbar, leading 5-4, took the match point to clinch a 4-1 win for Fresno State.
