Falcons Fall To #67 Utah State, 4-2

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force men's tennis dropped a 4-2 contest to #67 Utah State (14-3, 1-1 MW) in Mountain West play Saturday afternoon at the USAFA Outdoor Tennis Courts.

The Falcons (6-9, 1-1 MW) were led by singles wins from junior Arjun Kersten and freshman Alec Fritzinger.

Utah State went up 2-0 early with the doubles point and winning the first singles match.

Fritzinger got the Falcons on the board with a win at No. 4 to make it a 2-1 score. Fritzinger defeated Nuno Pinheiro in straight sets 6-2, 6-1.

The Aggies then won at No. 1 to go up 3-1. Kersten made it a 3-2 score with a win at No. 2. He defeated Stijn Paardekooper in straight sets 6-1, 7-5.

The Falcons were unable to keep the momentum going, as Utah State clinched with a win at No. 5 singles.

Head coach Evan Urbina recapping the match:
"Our team competed well today, and we know we have more within us. I was especially proud of Arjun for beating a high quality opponent, coming back from a break down in the second set. AJ turned his match around after losing the 1st set badly. Alec continued his hot streak, and got off the court quickly to erase the doubles point. We had good energy and momentum heading into the final two matches, but it didn't go our way. We showed a lot of fight, and know we can keep improving to put ourselves in a better position in the conference tournament.

Air Force returns to action Thursday, April 4 at UC San Diego.
