Air Force Downs Cleveland State, 12-9

USAF ACADEMY – Air Force outscored Cleveland State, 12-9, in ASUN Conference action on Easter Sunday at Falcon Stadium. The Falcons, now on a four-game win streak, improve to 5-4 overall with a 4-0 mark in the league.
Air Force junior attack man Josh Yago had a career day in leading the Falcons, scoring four goals and three assists for a career-best point performance. He put his utility on display with a personal season best six ground balls and two caused turnovers. Yago, the ASUN leader in assists per game, leads AF with 31 points from 14 goals and 17 assists.
Falcon young guns Turner Ashby and Calean Driggs put up two goals and an assist apiece. Driggs has notched a point in every game so far this season while Ashby has scored a goal in every game but one. Driggs leads Air Force with 23 goals to his credit while Ashby has 13.
Junior teammates Kyle Griffith and Wes Peene were good for two goals apiece. Aidan Tolen, Alexander Stepney, Cole Rassas, and Hunter Panzik were credited with assists in the offensive effort.
When all the shots were tallied, the Falcons took 41 to Cleveland State's 28— 26 of Air Force's shots were on a cage marking a season-high number for the offensive units. The Falcons decisively won the ground ball battle, picking up 34 to CSU's 25.
Defensively, the Falcons caused 10 of the Viking's 17 turnovers. Chris Bardak anchored the defense in shutting down Cleveland State's key scorer, Dylan Tomarchio, holding him scoreless and limiting him to just one shot attempt. Sophomore defender Cole Cunningham had a career-high three caused turnovers in the effort.
In cage, senior goalie Quinn Richards tallied the W after taking the reins from Nolan Parlette in the third quarter. Richards made one save while allowing just one goal in 18 minutes and caused a turnover from the crease.
Cleveland State had six goal scorers, three of which with two goals each. Gavin Held and Parker Yearego led the offensive effort with 15 combined shots and four combined goals.
Coming up, Air Force remains at the Academy to host Bellarmine in ASUN Conference action, April 6, at 11 a.m. MT. The Falcon are looking to make right on last season's only conference loss at Bellarmine's hand.
