
Air Force travels to Bandon Dunes Championship

THIS WEEK: Air Force will compete in the 15th Bandon Dunes Championship, Sunday-Tuesday, March 10-12, on the Pacific Dunes course at the Bandon Dunes Resort on the Oregon coast. Live scoring will be available on www.Golfstat.com.
THE FORMAT: Teams will play 18 holes each day with a shotgun start at 8:30 am PT. Five golfers will play with the low four individual scores determining the team scores for each round. For more information on the tournament, click here.
ABOUT THE COURSE: The Pacific Dunes course, a par-71 playing at 6600 yards, is consistently ranked the No. 2 public course in the United States behind Pebble Beach. The resort has become one of the top golf destinations in the world and hosted multiple USGA National Championships, including the 2020 U.S. Amateur and the 2022 U.S. Junior Amateur.
THE FIELD: Along with Air Force, the field includes the host school, Idaho, along with Utah, No. 25 Oregon, Seattle, SIU Edwardsville, San Jose State, Oregon State, Boise State, UC San Diego, Cal State Northridge, North Dakota State, Gonzaga and Weber State.
THE LINEUP: The Falcon lineup will be: 1-Eli Huntington; 2-Brooks Morrell; 3-Cameron Kahle; 4-Alvaro Fonseca; 5-Carson Baker; Ind-Aaron Kuznik.
AIR FORCE AT THE BANDON DUNES: Air Force will play in the Bandon Dunes Championship for the third straight season. Last season, the tournament was shortened to 36 holes due to weather. Cameron Kahle shot a 156, Brooks Morrell shot 158, Ted Davenport shot 162 and Alvaro Fonseca shot 170. Oregon won the tournament with a 581 (+5). Air Force was 18th with a 627. In 2021, Christopher Park led the Falcons and tied for 30th overall at 221. Oregon won the team title with an 863 (+11). Air Force was 15th with a 923.
LAST TIME OUT: Air Force shot a season-best 283 on the final day of the Loyola Intercollegiate at the Palm Valley Golf Club in Goodyear, Ariz. The 283 (-5) in the final round is the best round since shooting a 280 at the Ka'anapali Collegiate, Nov. 1, 2019. Air Force's three-round score of 861 is the best since the 2017-18 season. The 861 ties as the 13th best score since the Falcons joined a conference in 1999. Freshman Eli Huntington led the Falcons on the final day with a career-best 68 (-4). Huntington made six birdies on the final day. He was the top Falcon over the 54-hole tournament, placing 20th with a 212 (-4). Sophomore Brooks Morrell shot a career-best 70 on the final day and shot a 218 (+2) over the three-day tournament. Junior Cameron Kahle shot a 73 on the final day and finished the tournament at 219. Sophomore Alvaro Fonseca shot 72 on the final day and came in a 220 for the tournament. Senior Aaron Kuznik shot 74 on the final day and finished at 222 for the tournament. Air Force tied for 14th in the tournament at 861 (-3). North Dakota State won the 20-team tournament with a 824 (-40). Loyola Maryland, the host school, and Northern Colorado tied for second at 839 (-25).
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Among players who have played more than nine of the 18 rounds, freshman Eli Huntington leads the team with a 74.11 season stroke average. Sophomore Alvaro Fonseca is second (74.39), followed by junior Cameron Kahle (74.94) and freshman Carson Baker (76.33). The team's 283 on the final day of the Loyola Intercollegiate is the best of the season. The three-round score of 861 at the same tournament is also the best.
