Falcons pull away late to take down Lobos

COLORADO SPRINGS- Owning a 4-3 lead entering the 7th, Air Force exploded to score the game's final eight runs to secure a series-opening 12-3 win.

Zach Peters was the lone Falcon to record multiple hits, as the junior was 2-4 with an RBI double in the 8th. In his last nine games, Peters is 13-35 (.371) at the plate with five doubles and eight RBIs.

Sam Kulasingam was 1-3 with an RBI, two walks, and three runs scored, while Charlie Jones was 1-5 with a team-high 3 RBIs.

Jake Greiving finished 1-5, driving in a run with a double as part of a five-run Air Force 7th inning. Walker Zapp and Aerik Joe combined to drive in four runs following a pair of two-run singles in the same inning, helping the Falcons to create a big lead late in the ballgame.

Chase Spencer led off the game with a double, eventually coming around to score as part of a two-run opening inning for Air Force.

In total, the Falcons worked 10 walks on Friday, as eight of the nine Falcons starters produced at least one hit.

Seungmin Shim was again his reliable self, tossing 7.0 innings of three-run ball to pick up his fourth win of the season. In spite of only one strikeout, Shim didn't walk a batter while inducing 15 groundball outs.

In the midst of allowing a run in the 5th, Shim proceeded to retire nine-consecutive batters before exiting after the 7th.

Gaines Estridge entered in the 8th and was incredibly efficient, retiring six of the seven hitters he faced on just 19 pitches. Five of Estridge's six outs came as the result of groundball outs.

Next, Air Force and New Mexico will meet again on Saturday, April 20 with first-pitch scheduled for 1:00 pm MT.
