Falcons lose contain of Rebels in Friday loss

LAS VEGAS- Holding an initial 1-0 lead, Air Force saw UNLV score the final 11 runs in Friday's ballgame, as the Falcons were taken down 11-1 to open the series against the Rebels.

Aerik Joe was the only Falcons to drive home a run as well as produce multiple hits, as the senior was 2-4 with an RBI single in the 2nd. Jake Greiving was 1-4, as his double was the catalyst for Joe's eventual run-scoring base-hit.

Jay Thomason, Charlie Jones, Zach Peters, and Walker Zapp all provided singles as well.

Greiving's double was Air Force's only extra-base hit of the night, as the Falcons struck out 14 times while drawing just one walk. Through 28 games, Air Force owns a .366 slugging percentage after posting a collective .496 slugging percentage the past two seasons.

Making his eighth start of the spring, Seungmin Shim was his reliable self, scattering five hits over 5.2 innings before running out of steam in the 6th. In spite of three walks, Shim added nine more strikeouts to his season total, giving him 53 strikeouts over 49.0 innings this season.

In a 1-1 game entering the bottom of the 6th, Shim allowed a leadoff double followed by a walk, as both runners were moved into scoring position after a sacrifice bunt. Shim immediately recorded his ninth strikeout to ease the tension, though an RBI single and a walk would end his night.

Gaines Estridge entered with the bases-loaded and two outs in the 6th and allowed a run to score following a wild pitch, though the freshman induced a flyout to end the inning. The Rebels led 3-1 after six innings.

In the 7th, Estridge picked up the first two outs of the inning, though he was eventually on the hook for four runs over his lone inning of work. Sam Hentges recorded one out, allowing two hits and an unearned run.

Bowen Brantingam pitched the 8th, allowing three runs as the result of four hits and a walk.

Next, the Falcons will look to even the series against the Rebels, as the two teams will meet again on Saturday, April 6. First-pitch is scheduled for 7:00 pm MT.
