Falcons outslugged in Friday loss

SAN DIEGO- After a four-run 5th saw #1 Air Force level the score, the Falcons allowed nine runs over the final four innings, leading to Friday's 16-9 loss.

One day after becoming Air Force's all-time hit leader, Sam Kulasingam continued his rampage at the plate, as the senior was 3-4 with two home runs and 3 RBIs.

Kulasingam tied the game in the bottom of the 1st with a solo home run before a two-run home run in the 3rd. Kulasingam also singled in the 8th. Friday marks Kulasingam's first two-homer game since April 15, 2022. His on-base streak now stands at 25-consecutive ballgames.

Charlie Jones totaled eight bases in the defeat, managing three hits and a team-high 4 RBIs. Jones's two-run home run in the 5th provided the boost for a four-run outburst, as he later drove in two more runs in the 8th.

With four more runs batted in, Jones expands his RBI collection to 29 in his last 12 games. He's also homered 10 times in that same span.

Providing the tying hit in the 5th, Walker Zapp lined a two-run double to deep center field to level the score at 7-7. He singled in the 2nd as well.

Chase Spencer reached base in three of his five plate appearances and scored twice, pushing his one-base streak to 25 games and his hitting streak to 13 games. Jay Thomason managed a base-hit, the 18th-consecutive game he's reached base.

It was a frustrating evening for the Air Force pitching staff, as the combination of seven different arms were responsible for 20 hits and 13 earned runs. Two defensive errors and a passed ball cost the Falcons three additional unearned runs.

Air Force remains alive in the 2024 Mountain West Tournament, though the Falcons must maneuver out of an elimination game against #4 Fresno State set for Saturday, May 25 at 2:30 pm MT. The Falcons will carry a four-game winning streak against the Bulldogs into the do-or-die ballgame.
