COLORADO SPRINGS- The American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) announced its 2024 All-Region Teams on Tuesday, as Air Force's Seungmin Shim and Jay Thomason earned Second Team recognition as members of the Central region.
Shim, the Pitcher of the Year in the Mountain West, totaled a 3.22 ERA in 95.0 innings pitched, with both figures standing as top marks in the conference. He became just the third pitcher in program history to be named Pitcher of the Year in the conference, joining Griffin Jax and Paul Skenes as the only other hurlers to bring home the award.
Shim concluded his final collegiate spring with an 8-2 record in 17 games, the most wins by any pitcher in the league in 2024. He became just the 11th pitcher in Air Force history to win as many games in a single season, as the Californian tossed 7.0 innings while allowing just one run in the Falcons lone Mountain West Tournament win on May 24. The big lefty also led the Mountain West with seven pickoffs.
The honor is the first All-Region recognition of Shim's playing career.
Thomason adds yet another accolade to cap a celebrated 2024 season, as the Alabaman also earned NCBWA Co-District Player of the Year honors on June 7. Thomason was an overwhelming force for the Falcons in his final collegiate spring, managing a .358/.452/.763 slash in all 55 of Air Force's games. The lefty slugger became the all-time home run leader in the Mountain West in 2024, as his 58 career home runs stand as the most by any player in the history of the conference.
Matching his 2023 total with 21 home runs, Thomason is the only player in Air Force history to record multiple seasons of at least 21 home runs in program history. His 21 homers led all players in the Mountain West.
Thomason, who was recently commissioned as a Second Lieutenant, owned the conference lead in total bases (164) and runs scored (71) as well. The Second Team All-Region distinction marks the second-consecutive year Thomason has been recognized by the ABCA, picking up First Team honors in 2023.
