COLORADO SPRINGS- On Tuesday, College Sports Communicators (formerly COSIDA) produced its 2023-24 Academic All-District® Baseball Team, an acclaimed list including such Falcons as Doyle Gehring, Sam Kulasingam, and Ben Weber.
Gehring, the Air Force closer, led the Mountain West Conference with 10 saves while also producing a 3.70 GPA as a Military History major. The C1C's 10 saves were the most since Paul Skenes recorded 11 saves in 2021. Gehring, a First Team All-Conference selection, tossed 58.1 innings as a reliever with a 4.94 ERA.
Kulasingam, a Biology major, played in all 55 games for Air Force, as he ends his career having played 179-consecutive games. The two-time Mountain West Player of the Year managed a .323/.416/.498 slash in his final spring, earning Second Team All-Conference honors. Kulasingam posted a 3.72 GPA at the conclusion of his senior year at the Academy.
Weber was a leaned-upon rotation option for Air Force, totaling 68.0 innings in 17 games as a sophomore. Weber, an Operations Research major, owned a 3.74 GPA as a C3C.
For Academic All-District® consideration, student-athletes must garner a minimum 3.50 GPA. As well, position players must have competed in at least 90% of team games played OR have started at least 66% of the total number of team games played. For pitchers, players must pitch 25-plus innings or appear in 17 games as a pitcher.
