EUGENE, Ore. -- Air Force junior Darek Hackett capped the collegiate track and field season with a 24th-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles at the NCAA Outdoor Championships this evening (June 5) in Eugene, Oregon. Hackett, the first Falcon in 21 years to compete at the national meet in the intermediate hurdles, clocked a time of 51.60 to finish with Honorable Mention All-America status.
Tonight's national semifinal capped a remarkable junior season for Hackett, who defended his Mountain West title in the 400-meter hurdles with an Air Force – and Service Academy – Record time of 50.03, qualified to his third-straight NCAA Outdoor Championships, and became the program's first-ever Drake Relays champion in the intermediate hurdles event.
