U.S AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – The Air Force hockey team has named its captains for the 2024-25 season, according to head coach Frank Serratore.
Seniors Clayton Cosentino and Austin Schwartz will each wear a "C" while juniors Mason McCormick and Holt Oliphant will wear an "A" as assistant captains, as voted on by the team.
Cosentino, a center from San Carlos, Calif., was an assistant captain for the Falcons last season. A three-time academic all-conference selection, he has played in 110 career games and has 73 (23-50-73) points. As a junior, he tied for second on the team in goals (10), third in assists (18) and fourth in points (28). Last season, he led the nation with 594 faceoff wins. Among all NCAA players who won more than 500 draws, he led the nation in winning percentage at .592. A civil engineering major, he was recently selected as the male Captains of Captains and has been on the Dean's, Commandant's and Superintendent's Lists.
Schwartz was named the AHA Best Defensive Forward last season, just the third Falcon to ever win the award. Last season, he was also named the team's Defensive Player of the Year Award and was the co-recipient of the Larry Cronk Award as the team's most inspirational player. He played in all 38 games and was tied for second on the team with 10 goals and sixth on the team with 19 points. The winger from Parker, Colo., led the nation with four short-handed goals, the most by a Falcon since 2015-16. He also ranked third in the nation in blocked shots by a forward with 46 and won 53.6 percent of his faceoffs, most coming on special teams. He was named to the AHA all-academic team in 2023-24.
McCormick played in all 38 games last season. He ranked seventh on the team with 15 points (6-9-15) and had two power-play goals, a shortie and two game-winners. The center from Verona, Wisc., won 290 faceoffs last season, the second most on the team. His faceoff winning percentage of .540 was also second on the team. He was named to the AHA all-academic team in 2023-24.
Oliphant played in all 38 games and tied for seventh on the team with 14 points. His 10 goals were tied for second on the team. The winger from Northbrook, Ill., also had 23 blocked shots, two power-play goals, two short-handed goals and three empty-netters. He was named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team, the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) All-American Scholars team and the AHA all-academic team.
Air Force opens the season by hosting 20th-ranked Arizona State, Oct. 4-5, at the Cadet Ice Arena.
