Air Force Overtaken By Wyoming

Air Force football (1-3, 0-2 MW) dropped a 31-19 contest at Wyoming (1-4, 1-0 MW) Saturday night at War Memorial Stadium in Laramie, Wyo. The Cowboys out-scored the Falcons 24-6 in the second half to pull away.

The Falcons held a 13-7 halftime lead after controlling the ball for over 20 minutes in the first half. After Wyoming scored a touchdown on its opening drive, the Falcons responded with 13 unanswered points.

A Matt Dapore field goal capped a 12-play, 72 yard drive that made it 7-3. Then running back Kade Frew capped a nine-play, 81-yard drive with an eight-yard rushing touchdown to put the Falcons up 10-7. Dapore then hit a 27 yard field goal before the half to make it 13-7.

Wyoming took control of the game in the second half by scoring on four consecutive drives. The Cowboys scored 17 unanswered points in the third quarter to pull ahead 24-13.

Air Force made it 24-19 after Aiden Calvert capped a seven-play, 75-yard drive with a 37-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. Calvert led the Falcons with 54 yards rushing on three carries.

The Falcons then forced Wyoming to punt with less than four minutes to play and seemed ready have a chance to re-take the lead. But a 15-yard penalty on the play wiped out the punt and prolonged the Cowboy drive. Wyoming went on to score a touchdown to put the game out of reach.

Air Force rushed for a season-high 205 yards. Quarterback John Busha threw for 115 yards. Receiver Cade Harris hauled in five catches for a career-high 106 yards. He is the first Falcon to go over 100 yards receiving since David Cormier did so against Navy in 2022.

The Falcons return to action next Saturday, Oct. 5, hosting Navy. The game kicks at 10 am MT and will be televised by CBS.
