Air Force Falls at No. 4 Western Michigan, 5-1

KALAMAZOO – The fourth-ranked Western Michigan Broncos outscored Air Force, 5-1, Sunday afternoon at UWM Soccer Complex. The Falcons, still in the hunt for win drop to 0-4-1. UWM remains undefeated (5-0-1).

The Broncos scored two goals in the opening 15 minutes with the first strike coming from Noah James in the 13^th minute, followed by Carson Hodgson in the 15^th minute. Air Force trailed two-nil at halftime with UWM taking 11 shots in the first half.

The situation did not improve for the Falcons in the second half as Owen Smith scored a goal in the 56^th minute. Teammate Braxton Arpachinda followed up five minutes later with the fourth strike of the game. The Broncos' Alek Markovski scored another for good measure in the 86^th minute.

AF freshman Bradley Poppell denied the Broncos a shutout, scoring his first collegiate goal via feed from Nick Bisagno in the 88^th minute. The match marked the Falcons' first game to end outside of a one goal differential.

Seven Falcons attempted seven shots in the match. Kyle Skevington, Tyler Kato, Ryan Daunt and Poppell were credited with shots on goal. UWM outshot Air Force, 15-7, with eight shots being taken on target.

Freshman keeper Brody Smith made two saves in his second collegiate start.

Next up, the Falcons travel to Sunny California to take on UC San Diego, Sunday, September 15. Action at Triton Soccer Stadium is slated for a 7 p.m. PT start.
