Air Force Drops Contest To Wyoming

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force men's basketball dropped a 70-65 contest to Wyoming (9-6, 2-2 MW) in Mountain West play on Saturday afternoon at Clune Arena. Sophomore center Wesley Celichowski led the Falcons with 19 points.
The Falcons could not maintain a nine-point lead as the Cowboys rallied back to take the win.
Air Force led by five points at 55-50 with 10:11 to go in the game after a Kyle Marshall three. The Falcons went ice cold from the field from there on out, making just three field goals and getting out-scored 20-10 the rest of the way.
Air Force opened the first half strong, jumping ahead 36-33 on the heels of 62.5 percent shooting from the field. Celichowski scored 14 of his points in the opening half, going 6-for-6 from the field.
The Falcons led for much of the second half, till going cold late. Wyoming took a 58-56 lead lead at the 5:43 mark and would not relinquish it. Air Force got the deficit down to three with 1:54 to play, but the Cowboys closed the game out by making six free throws to stay ahead.
Kobe Newton led four Cowboys in double-figures with 16 points. Dontaie Allen did damage from long range, going 4-for-4 from three-point range and finishing with 14 points off the bench.
Celichowski was 8-of-10 from the field, adding four rebounds and a blocked shot. Senior Ethan Taylor added 10 points, with team-high's of eight assists, seven rebounds and three steals. Freshman Kyle Marshall added eight points.
Air Force shot 56.5 percent from the field, but was a dismal 39 percent (5-13) from the free throw line. Wyoming shot 57 percent from the field and 69 percent from three (9-13).
The opening tip was delayed one hour due to base access delays caused by enhanced security measures at the Academy.
Air Force returns to action Wednesday, Jan. 8, at San Diego State. Tip time is slated for 7:30 pm PT at Viejas Arena and the game will be broadcast on FS1.
