U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – Key defensive plays proved critical on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 18, 2025, as Air Force football worked its way to a 24-21 win over Wyoming in Mountain West play at Falcon Stadium.
After trailing for the majority of the first half and into the second, the Air Force run game managed to work its way back to a tie in the third quarter. Late interceptions on consecutive Wyoming drives stalled the Cowboy advance and awarded the Falcons a lead that held through the remainder of the contest.
Sophomore quarterback Liam Szarka posted 174 total yards of offense and a rushing touchdown, including 141 yards on the ground. Szarka's fifth-straight 100-yard rushing game is an Academy record for the most consecutive 100-plus yard performances on the ground by a quarterback.
Junior running back Owen Allen tallied 105 yards on 10 carries. Szarka and Allen's 100-plus yard rushing performances on Saturday marked the third time this season two Falcons have pushed triple-digit rushing yards and the second time in as many games for both Szarka and Allen to do so in tandem.
Senior kicker Reagan Tubbs went 3-3 on field goals, including a career-long from 40 yards in the fourth quarter. Three field goals in a game for Tubbs represents a career high.
Junior safety Roger Jones and freshman Max Mustell both led Air Force with 10 and eight total tackles, respectively, with both coming away with interceptions.
On the opening drive, Air Force (2-5, 1-4 MW) converted a fourth-and-three in Wyoming (3-4, 1-2 MW) territory to set up a 32-yard field goal and 3-0 Falcon lead. Air Force's early advantage quickly evaporated, as Wyoming answered on its first possession of the game to take a 7-3 advantage with 1:29 left in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Falcons, on their third possession of the game, went 10 plays for 74 yards on the ground but were held to Tubbs' second field goal of the day at Wyoming's 20-yard line. After Tubbs' score, Air Force ultimately trailed 7-6 at halftime.
Momentum ramped up for both Air Force and Wyoming with the start of the second half as both teams traded touchdowns on the first two possessions. After Wyoming running back Terron Kellman broke loose for a 23-yard score and his second touchdown of the day, the Falcons answered with an eight-play, 60-yard touchdown drive. Szarka capped the drive by finding the end zone for Air Force's first touchdown of the day. A successful two-point conversion pass attempt from Szarka to senior tailback Kade Frew tied the game at 14-14 with 6:39 on the clock in the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter on third and three with Wyoming threatening another score inside the Air Force redzone, sophomore safety Roger Jones picked off the Cowboys in the endzone for his second career interception resulting in a touchback with 9:30 remaining in the game. The Falcons capitalized, going 80 yards in eight plays, ending with Frew scoring on the ground on fourth-and-one to buy Air Force its first lead since the opening minutes of the game.
With Air Force leading 21-14 with 5:28 remaining, Anderson looked to buy back Wyoming's advantage. But his pass was picked off for a second time, as Mustell came away with the interception at Wyoming's 29. Air Force's second awarded opportunity in as many drives was capped by Tubbs' third field goal of the day from 40 yards, marking a career high for the senior. The Falcons would go up 10 at 24-14.
With just over a minute to go, Wyoming's Anderson found receiver Michael Fitzgerald for the first and only passing touchdown of the game to cut Air Force's lead to three. The Falcons then recovered the onside kick and picked up a game-ending first down to run the clock out for the victory.
With the win, Air Force earns its fourth straight over the Cowboys at Falcon Stadium. The Falcons improve to 31-28-3 in the all-time series with Wyoming, and 19-12-1 at home.
