LAS VEGAS – The Falcons' team captain worked up a pair of singles wins at the Mountain West Fall Qualifier this week, but ultimately the Falcons fell as a unit after day two at the Darling Tennis Center in Las Vegas.
The second day of competition consisted of the doubles quarterfinal round, followed by two rounds of singles to complete quarterfinals:
In singles play, senior Arianna Van Houweling split on the day, advancing out of the Round of 16 with a three-set win over UNLV's Nikol Mircheva. Winning her final set in an 11-9 super tiebreak, Van Houweling scored her sixth-consecutive win in open singles, before falling in another three-set quarterfinal bout to San Diego State's Jo-Yee Chan. Van Houweling closes her singles bid with a 9-2 record in singles play through Air Force's first three fall tournaments.
Nadia Kojonroj and freshman Yule Kang, both competing in the consolation bracket, fell on Friday to close out their respective weekends in Vegas.
In doubles competition, Van Houweling/Kojonroj, after advancing on Thursday, fell in a narrow 8-6 set to Wyoming's Violetta Borodina/Silver Bijlsma, earning just their second loss as a duo this fall (8-2).
